The counseling center welcomes your feedback on the Drug Awareness Week. The activities for the week are as follows:
Drug Awareness Week 2014 will take place this month, 18th – 20th March and the activities for the three day campaign include:

  18th March 2014

*             The student organizing committee will visit classrooms and give fellow students IEC messages on Alcohol, Drug and Substance abuse, and on domestic violence.(18th-20th March)

*             Alcohol screening using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) questionnaire to be carried out to assess the extent of  substance abuse to inform on effective  prevention               ,intervention and treatment(self-scoring confidentiality assured)- SAC square throughout  the day

*            Distribution of IEC materials(outside SAC)

*             Video presentation outside the student affairs council (SAC) office on the LCD screen

*             Raffle tickets on sale (cafeteria, SAC square throughout  the day)

 

19th   March 2014

*            Awareness creation by organizations dealing with alcohol and substance abuse.(NACADA, SAPTA ,SCAD, Dove international treatment and training center(SAC square throughout  the day)

*         Forum (auditorium)  2-4pm-free t-shirts for the first 100 (Sponsor Dove international)

*             Sale of raffle tickets (cafeteria, SAC square throughout  the day)

*             Create a Wall Mural of handprints to raise awareness on people affected by Alcohol, Drug and Substance Abuse (SAC square throughout  the day)

 

20th  March 2014  Concert auditorium 5.00-8.00pm

 

*             Contacted partners (Dove international, SAPTA, NACADA,) to have their representatives give a talk to students , as well as take the opportunity to hear the voices of the recovered. Main speaker

        Mr. Heshan de Silva Chief executive officer DSG Venture Capital (featured on K24-Young Rich)

*             Clip of the USIU  management message and volunteers  among USIU community on Alcohol, Drug and Substance abuse to the USIU community

*             There will be an opening presentation by USIU drama club “Michezo Africa”.

*             There will also be student competitions to help create a relaxed and fun atmosphere as we take on creating awareness against drug & substance abuse. The competitions include:

 

                ü  A lucky dip where the winners get awards. (Gift hampers)

 

               ü  Mini talent show

 

               ü  Dance competition

*             Presentation by Hisia, Nyambura   and USIU upcoming student artists and invited guest artist
