Master of Science in Information Systems and Technology

About the program
The developing world have been identified as sorely in need of ICT-based solutions to address national and industry challenges. An assessment of employers by USIU identified extensive industry needs for highly qualified, competent and skilled graduates in specialist areas, such as IT security, software development, business systems management, mobile technology etc. The proposed program will bridge this gap by providing a progression path to higher degree qualification that gives students exposure to advanced skills in areas such as Business Information Systems, Software Development, Telecommunications & Mobile Computing and Internet Security & Cybercrime.

How it works
The Master of Science in Information Systems & Technology (MSc. IST) program curricula design is based on the information system track described by Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Additionally the curriculum design was informed by the contemporary and emerging information and technology paradigms in both business organizations as well as in the technology frontier. Among the obvious ones in this range include mobile applications and cloud computing. This alignment with IEEE standards, contemporary market needs in Information systems,  and  addressing the changing IT landscape was necessary to ensure that the program is not only relevant but will serve the business information challenges of the future.

Students joining the program will take up a total of 54 units over a two year period.  39 of these will be core while 15 will be taken as concentration units. Upon completion of the degree program students will be expected to specialize in one of the following areas:
  • Business Information Systems,
  • Software Development
