Citizen TV Journalist at Club Meeting

Above: Mr. Waihiga Mwaura, an award-winning sports anchor and reporter for Kenya’s Citizen TV speaks to members of the Public Speaking Club on Wednesday, October 9 at the Chandaria School of Business.

The Public Speaking Club organized a motivational talk featuring awarding-winning sports journalist Waihiga Mwaura on Wednesday October 9.  Mr. Mwaura described how he became interested in journalism right from college to Royal Media Services – the owner of Citizen TV (where Mr. Mwaura is a sports anchor and reporter).

In addition to sharing tips on how to speak well to public audiences, he urged students to read widely: “Anyone who is a public speaker is one who reads a lot and reads widely” , as well as the role played in listening to good speeches such as those on BBC radio and TV.
“Public speakers are not born but groomed,” said Mr. Mwaura, describing how other renowned journalists have mentored him such as KTN’s Jeff Koinange and Citizen TV’s Johnson Mwakazi. He also noted that Kenyan President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta and U.S.President Barack Obama honed their public speaking skills through frequent usage.
Mr. Mwaura concluded by noting that successful people associate with the right crowd- other successful people.
