Name: Dolly Sagwe-Onyoni

Position: Chairperson

Education: Bsc. Business Administration Class of 1998

Dolly is currently Director, Business Finance at Oracle (EA). She graduated from USIU in 1998 and has had a successful finance career spanning over 17 years while working for P&G, HP and GE covering East Africa, Sub Sahara Africa and the Middle East. Dolly is also a personal financial advisor and career mentor to many and passionate about raising financial awareness through her program "Let's Talk Money".

Dolly is a member of the exclusive African Leadership Network (ALN), has served on the YWCA Finance Board, Board member of the KEPSA Public Finance Committee among other leadership engagements.

Name: Ian Mukuria

Position: Vice Chairperson, USIU Alumni Africa Association

Education: BSC. International Business Administration class of 1999, MBA, DBA (Information Systems)

Ian is the Executive director at Nanu Investments Ltd, since 2007 up to date. He has worked as Group Auditor at Aarons Hotel & Aarons All Suites Hotel Perth (2005 – 2007), Marketing Officer at National Social Security Fund NSSF (2003 – 2005) and  Off-Campus Housing Assistant at Edith Cowan University(June 2002 – Nov 2003)

Being skilled at Organizational change management and Management of multicultural organizations in a multicultural corporation, Mukuria is the vice chairperson of the USIU Alumni Association Council.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration (marketing) from USIU (class of 1999) Master of Business Administration Edith Cowan University, Australia(2003)and a Doctor of Business Administration (Information Systems)Edith Cowan University, Australia(2006).

Name: Kalekye Mumo

Position: Public Relations Chairperson, USIU Africa Alumni Association

Education: BA. International Relations class of 2000


Radio Anchor, Kenya's News Kiss Morning Kiss (6-10am), MC, Owner/ Director Black Butterfly Hair Salon, Actress, TV Host and Solo artist

After graduating from USIU-Africa with a degree in International Relations, Kalekye first started at the Turkish Embassy as a trade Attaché assistant and soon followed her passion for the arts and worked as a team manager for Homeboyz deejays in 2001.

Knowing all along she wanted a radio job having sent demo tapes over and over, she sought a trainer and was trained and given a job at Rough Cuts Productions in Karen as a studio manager and sound engineer assistant 2002-2003.

In 2005, Kalekye moved to be a sound engineer in her own right at Mediva Africa, where she worked on shows like Tazama and Agenda Kenya. Kalekye broke into the radio scene mid-2005 when she won a radio idols challenge at Capital FM as voted by listeners.

Mid 2006, Kalekye finally got her own show with co-host Shaffie Weru and the Rush Hour on Kiss 100 was born. This monster show built up her on air character to now see her take over the Morning Kiss 6-10am on Kenya's New Kiss in October 2014 together with Shaffie Weru.

 As Alumni of USIU - Africa Kalekye recently got elected as the Associations Public Relations Chairperson a job well suited for her as an experienced media personality.

Name: Charles Mwakio

Position: Chair, Membership Committee USIU Africa Alumni Association Council

Education: BSC. International Business Administration (Marketing) class of 2012

Mr. Mwakio applies his gift in Public Speaking at training programs and workshops focused on equipping participants with Sales, Public Speaking and Personal Branding skills. Charles also officiates and moderates corporate events as a Master of Ceremonies.

Through Hifadhi Africa Organization an NGO that he Co-founded Charles is currently championing E-learning & water projects in Baringo County in partnership with Rotary Clubs of which he is a Rotaractor.

 

Name: Norah Wawira Kiereri

Position: Chair, Academic Committee USIU Alumni Association Council

Education: Bachelor of Arts in International Relations (Class of 2006)

Norah is the Enrollment Manager at KCA University. Previously, she worked at USIU as an Admissions Counselor. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in International Relations at USIU.

Name: George Rutto

Position: Treasurer, USIU Africa Alumni Association

Education: BSC. International Business Administration (Accounts & Finance) class of 2004

George Rutto is the former Chairman, USIU Alumni Association Board of Trustees (2010 – 2015) and former Chairman USIU Alumni Association Transition Committee (2013 – 2015). He is a career banker currently working at Consolidated Bank of Kenya Limited as Head of Audit. He has previously worked at National Bank of Kenya Limited and Credit Bank Limited in various management positions.

Rutto holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration (Accounts and Finance) from USIU (class of 2004) and a Master of Business Administration (Finance and Strategic Management) from University of Nairobi (class of 2011).

Rutto is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA – K) and was recently awarded a fellowship by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).Other than ICPAK, he is also a member of Institute of Internal Auditors(IIA – Kenya), and The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).

Name: Hassan Bashir

Position: Committee member, USIU Africa Alumni Association

Education: BSC. International Business Administration, MBA.

Mr. Bashir has held key Executive positions over the last 18 years in the Insurance and technology sectors in the East Africa Region. He has also been involved in higher education and has taught at the United States International University (USIU) Chandaria School of Business, in Nairobi, Kenya since the year 2001.

He is the Founder and Group Chief Executive (GCE) of Takaful Africa Group. Takaful Africa Group, is a pioneering risk management and financial services group which has introduced a new and exciting ethical perspective to risk management in the Eastern Africa market. 

He is an entrepreneur who founded a number of successful companies in the pharmaceutical, ICT, Construction, and financial services industries in East Africa.

He has served on the Board of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI), Kenya’s Capital Markets Master Plan Steering Committee, Chandaria School of Business Advisory Council, SIMAD University Board of Trustees; and Chairs the Boards of a number of private sector companies. He is an Entrepreneur, Mentor, and Educator.

Mr. Bashir holds BSc International Business (IBA) USIU San Diego and MBA (Marketing) from USIU Africa, Nairobi.

Name: Jacob O. Ogola

Position: Committee Member (Former Chairperson), USIU Africa Alumni Association

Education: MSC Organizational Development, DBA (In progress)

Jacob O. Ogola is a commercial banker with over 15 years’ experience in credit risk management, currently Senior Manager-Credit Administration Unit at Commercial Bank of Africa Limited.

Ogola joined USIU in the 1990s as a transfer student from Moi University (Faculty of Technology-Textile Engineering) having been awarded Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Scholarship to undertake his undergraduate studies. He was amongst the pioneer students of Msc. in Organizational Development (2007). He is currently a final year student of Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and the Class President of DBA cohort 1. Ogola is also an adjunct faculty in Chandaria School of Business-USIU.

Ogola has been an active member of the association having been elected the Vice Chair in 2008. He served as a chair of the association from 2010 to 2015. He is passionate in building sustainable USIU Alumni Scholarship which he is positive will be achieved under the current alumni leadership.
