Global accounting body (ACCA) holds seminar on campus

The annual  Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA) Students Seminar was held on the Saturday September 28, 2013 at the auditorium drawing a crowd of over five hundred students from universities all over the city including Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Strathmore University, KCA University, Mount Kenya University among others.

The ACCA is a global professional body of accountants Chartered Certified Accountant qualification (ACCA or FCCA). It is one of the largest global accountancy bodies with over 155,000 members and 432,000 students in 170 countries. The theme for this seminar was “The world is your playground,” while its purpose was to promote the course among university students.

The seminar was graced by a number of great speakers from the accounting and finance industry such as Ms. Ruma Shah, Head of Group Internal Audit at the I & M Bank, Mr. Joseph Sitati, Chief Finance & Administration Officer at Deacons Kenya, and Mr. Geoffrey Ochieng, Education Services Manager at ACCA Kenya. There were also global inspirational speakers such as Dr. Wale Akinyemi urged students not to accept mediocrity and had this to say on mentorship: “

The full-day seminar ended with students anxious to attend the next one which has been scheduled for January 2014. As one of the students stated It’s been an amazing day, one of my greatest lessons from this seminar is that my mind has the ability to take me further than I thought and in regard to accounting and finance, experience and certification is very important. With all the tips and explanations we have been given about the finance industry and how to make money and to be a professional, I feel that I’m at an advantage because I have a different mind-set .
